Yoel Groman is a PhD student in the Department of Mathematics at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Yoel’s research lies at the crossroads of symplectic geometry and string theory physics. His research focuses on two related themes. One is open string mirror symmetry, a conjecture in pure mathematics inspired by string theory. The second is the quantitative geometry of holomorphic curves in symplectic manifolds. Yoel aims to provide insight into mirror symmetry by defining a certain class of invariants, counting open holomorphic curves, whose existence was predicted by physicists.
