Volunteer Activity at Kfar Galim Youth Village, as part of the Project for students from Dartmouth College

In Kfar Galim, the youth village where I live, we host groups of students from Dartmouth College, New Hampshire, for a week of Active Spring Break every year. During this week the students' mission is to promote a project which will benefit of the village's students. To run this project, the Dartmouth students not only donate all material costs, but mainly invest themselves in the hard physical work of setting up the project.

This year, the 12th graders who would soon graduate from the village's boarding school decided to join forces with the Dartmouth students and create a bigger project that would be left as a present for the village after their graduation. Together, the students decided on building an Ecological Educational Center. A construct that would be built solely from recycled materials (mainly tires filled with building waste covered by cement and wires) and will host, in the future, workshops in the area of sustainability and ecology.

As part of my volunteer activity, I assisted in preparing the groundwork for the students' arrival. Upon coming to Israel, I joined the students in their work and helped facilitate the interaction between the Dartmouth students and the 12th graders. After the students left back to New Hampshire I stayed and assisted the 12th graders in preparing presentations of their project. The results can be viewed in the attached video.
